We are Community/Labor United for Postal Jobs and Service. We are resisting the plans of the 1% who are conspiring to destroy the United States Postal Service with the goal of privatizing it. The Postal Service is an institution loved by the working class and is enshrined in the US Constitution. We want to help the 99% mobilize to fight this attempt to sacrifice the Post Office for the sake of Wall Street criminal investment opportunities.
As our kickoff to “Operation Zip Code” we are organizing a March and Rally on March 17, along with numerous community groups, postal unions and sister unions. A rally will begin at Union Square at 12 noon. We will march to the Post Office on 9th Ave between 15th and 16th Street and join a rally sponsored by the Chelsea Coalition on Housing protesting the closing of their neighborhood post office. We will then march to the Manhattan GPO at 33rd Street and 8th Ave to join a mass rally that began at 2pm.
“Operation Zip Code” is a mobilization for resistance in communities directly affected by the proposed Post Office closings. Most of these proposed closings are in communities with many seniors, immigrants and people of color.
We are asking for your support and endorsement for the March and Rallies on March 17. We will need banners and signs. We need assistance with busses going to the rallies from various points in NYC and Long Island.
Most of all, we ask as many of you as can make it to come out and join us on March 17th, in Union Square at 12 Noon, 15thStreet & 9th Ave. at 1 PM and 33rd Street & 8th Ave. at 2 PM
We have received the endorsement of the OWS Labor Outreach Committee.
