Stories of the Day. Bank fees surge as the mega-giant corporations continue to seek new ways to profit from customers. The New York Times looks at The Corporate Candidates. And the Obama Administration has seen a major changing of the guard in the Chief of Staff position, with former JP Morgan executive Bill Daley being replaced by formed Citigroup executive Jack Lew.

Other Occupies. Mayor 1% (Rahm Emmanuel) seeks striking new powers in order to crush protests in order to accommodating the city’s upcoming NATO and G8 summits this spring. Occupy Chicago is fighting back. And in New York, an Occupy Our Homes action enters its second month.

Volunteer Opportunities/Announcements.

Today, “Occupy the T” planning meeting 165 Broadway in Somerville (Teem Empowerment Office) Members from OB will be meeting with Occupy Somerville and other community organizers to discuss “Occupy the T,” and the possibility of organizing a Boston-wide response to fare hikes and transit cuts. We are hoping to initiate a discussion with ACE (Alternatives for Community and the Environment) and other organizations to help support their ongoing work here.

Today and Wednesday, January 10-11: City Life / Vida Urbana Bank Tenants meeting 6 p.m., Jamaica Plain, East Boston Every Tuesday and Wednesday, CLVU meets with individuals facing foreclosure to assist them with legal help, plan actions, and organize around their ongoing anti-foreclosure campaigns. For anyone who is interested in organizing directly around foreclosure in Boston, these meetings are a great place to start.
